annie leibovitz - vogue shoot - paris - france

Today, a break from the educational post. A video for your enjoyment. Annie Leibovitz, one of the world's most renowned photographers. She has shot just about every celebrity, politician or newsworthy person for decades. Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Sean Connery, Queen Elizabeth, just to name a few.

This video takes place in Paris, France where Annie is doing a Vogue magazine shoot. She makes the gigs seem so effortless, as once the shoot begins, there is no time wasted. All of the execution planned in advance. Any changes made in seconds without being noticed by the celebrities who have a busy schedule to keep. Much can be learned by simply observing the manner in which she deals with her clients. Also, take notice of her lighting setups. Although the final product seems like it had the lights of a movie set, it is quite the opposite. Sure, the location of this shoot and others, are very dramatic but the light is very obtainable by a shooter without having high priced clients such as Vogue. She uses ambient lighting to fill backgrounds along with modest amounts of strobes.

Take notice while watching the video, that Annie is using two different types of cameras for this particular shoot. First is a Canon 1d, DSLR, firing the lights via Pocketwizards, and another seems to be a Mamiya medium format film camera.

Below is one of the final images from this shoot. Amazing is an understatement.
